Event Topics

Emotional Intelligence - or the Emotional Quotient (EQ) - is cited as an important skill for leaders to develop.  EQ is commonly understood as the learned ability to manage emotions effectively and interpret messages directly.

Successive Approximation:  Learning sometimes occurs in a quantum leap, and performance sometimes gets better in the same way.  From time to time each of us should experience a quantum leap in learning and performance.  The proven approach for ensuring that we keep getting better, though, is successive approximation—getting a little better every day.

Intellectual Humility/Cultural Humility:  Bottom line…let’s remain curious…. let’s have intellectual humility…let’s get better at saying “I don’t know.” Are you strong enough to allow your lived truth and my lived truth to both exist?

Blind Spots Cause Blind Behaviors:  We all have blind spots in our knowledge and opinions.  One way to help with blind spots is self-awareness and others-awareness.  Asking others, to gain their perspective, helps you see maybe what you don’t see.

Nothing has meaning…until you give it meaning.  Mindset, self-awareness, and psychological safety only have meaning if we give them meaning.

Speaker Marcel Brunel

Marcle Brunel

Marcel Brunel has spent the last 28 years working with organizations as an expert in emotional intelligence and performance development.  While working closely with many government organizations, he provides innovative, state-of-the-art assessment tools.  Living problems require living solutions.  We are not broken.  Emotional literacy, in municipalities, empowers us thru the past, in the present, and for the future.  Interpersonal skills help have impact on hard issues.  Emotional intelligence (EI), psychological safety, and belonging can now be measured.  Developing EI skills is it not hard.  It is not complex.  It is not academic.  It is not touchy-feely. It is important.  It changes lives.  Your cities lives included.

This is the way to build a “we” perspective. It’s with the “we” perspective where we are all better together.  We all do better when we all do better.

Marcel lives in Dallas, Texas and is the father of Sydney, Jonah, and Adrienne.  He has been married to his wife Susie for over 28 years.  He currently works with 84 Texas cities and has his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas A&M.
