The Distinguished Service Award is awarded to an individual who has distinguished themselves by making a significant contribution throughout their career to promote the municipal clerk profession, TMCA, Inc., and their peers. Nominees must be a TRMC, have been a member of TMCA for at least ten years (members are eligible up to two years after retirement), and must have demonstrated a significant contribution to the city secretary profession, their community, or to TMCA.

The deadline each year to submit nominations is June 15. The Distinguished Service Award is selected by the TMCA Executive Board. The winner is announced at the Annual TMCA Awards Banquet—held at the TMCCP Advanced Institute Seminar in the fall.
